Human trafficking is the exploitation by force, fraud or coercion of vulnerable people for forced labor, domestic servitude, or commercial sex operations. Human trafficking has become a multi-billion dollar global crime impacting nations - and neighborhoods - around the world. Florida is third in the nation for Human Trafficking. Over 100,000 of our own US children are prostituted in America each year.

Local Soroptimist members are very concerned about domestic violence, particularly now – in these times of additional financial stress. Club members have distributed over 120,000 “Loves me, Loves me Not” bookmarks without charge and have been told that the message imprinted on them has saved lives. We have added “Keeping Women Safe at Work” handouts to our Campaign arsenal. It is our goal to continue to print and distribute these bookmarks throughout the area; also to encourage other Soroptimist Clubs around the world to do the same. If you would like to have a supply of these bookmarks, please contact June Wallace at JuneMWallace@gmail.com telling us where they will be distributed and how many you would like to have.
At our Annual Planning Meeting held in June of each year, members select community service projects that address current local needs and reach out to women in the world. One of the projects chosen was to provide a “Secret Santa” event at Pinellas Village. Rather than give gifts to the children, our members and friends will be providing gifts so that each single parent will have a gift from each of their children. Best Buy has agreed to come and take pictures of each child and develop them on-site, as an extra gift for these deserving single parents.
Pinellas Village is a 120 unit apartment complex for single parent families who are working towards economic and emotional self-sufficiency through education, training and supportive family services.
