Since 1972, Soroptimist has been helping women the world over to reclaim their dreams through the Women's Opportunity Awards program. Each year Soroptimist Clubs assist women in overcoming personal difficulties and bettering their lives through education and skills training. The women may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, including books, childcare, and transportation. On International Women's Day (March 8) SI Largo awards $1,000 to our winner. That winner becomes eligible to receive region-level awards of $5,000 or $3,000. The 28 first-place region-level recipients then become eligible for one of three $10,000 Federation of the Americas awards. The deadline for submitting applications to SI Largo is December 15 each year. The Ruby Lee Minar Soroptimist Memorial Fund gives interest free loans to qualified candidates for graduate study in fields of their choice. Applicants' legal residence shall be within the territorial limits of Southern Region, but they may attend schools elsewhere.
